Introduction to Training at the Diocese of Hallam

The Safeguarding Office of the Hallam Catholic Safeguarding Commission is committed to providing training for clergy and religious, lay workers and volunteers in ministry with the Catholic Diocese of Hallam.

Training is part of the process of creating safe environments for all. It helps to raise awareness. Feedback from those who have attended sessions suggests that it helps people to feel more confident about what they do, especially if they need to raise concerns.

We are endeavouring to provide training to the standard set by "Towards a Culture of Safeguarding", and as part of that process we hope to have access to an e-learning programme to supplement the face to face training.

The Safeguarding Office also works with Ecumenical partners to provide additional training by negotiation. If you are booking with one of the advertised training courses delivered under the auspices of the Ecumentical Safeguarding Partnership, you will need to specify at the point of booking, which parish, church organisations, Diocese or circuit you are attached to.

Please see the attached document for training offered to specific groups

Events which are described as open seminars, for example the 'Hurt By Abuse seminars', are open to all with an interest subject to numbers.

At present all training events are free providing eligibility is agreed. There will however be a charge if places are booked and the place is not taken up.

Each year the Hallam Safeguarding Commission provides a variety of training courses including induction sessions for new safeguarding representatives, Hurt by Abuse seminars and an annual safeguarding event, as well as other training based on topics topics such as DBS & safe recruitment, common sense in safeguarding for adults and children, code of conduct and reporting concerns, and creating safe environments.

Please contact us if you have ideas about topics for training.
If you want to offer training, please provide details of your skills and experience using the attached form and send it to our Sessional Trainer Jim Todd on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
